The words haven't changed. But sometimes we have.
Scripture has a remarkable way of meeting us differently in different seasons of life. A detail that once seemed small suddenly stands out, or a phrase you've read a hundred times takes on new meaning.
For Jordan Rubin, that unexpected detail was something many of us might have read right past.
The Message in Two Familiar Verses
The image of leaves appears twice in Scripture, once in Ezekiel 47:12 and again in Revelation 22:2. In both passages, a river flows from the presence of God, nourishing trees that bear fruit season after season.
It's a beautiful picture of abundance and hope. Most of us remember the river, trees, and fruit from the verses, but there’s another important detail. It’s the leaves.
It's a small thing, and it’s easy to miss. But the fact that both verses specifically mention the leaves raises an interesting question. Why were they included at all?
Throughout Scripture, details often carry meaning. The Bible doesn't waste words, and repeated images invite us to pay closer attention. When the same picture appears in both Ezekiel and Revelation, it's worth slowing down to consider why.
A Question Worth Asking
When Jordan Rubin read these verses, he noticed the mention of fruit tree leaves in both passages.
It was a simple question, but one that stayed on his mind: Why the leaves?
Jordan didn't find a single answer to that question. He found a direction. The repeated mention of fruit tree leaves inspired him to study both Scripture and scientific literature, learning more about fruit tree leaves and the naturally occurring compounds they contain.
That curiosity eventually grew into years of research spanning more than 1,500 fruit trees. From that work, Jordan carefully selected 12 fruit tree leaves to create Healing Leaves. His journey also led him to create regenerative orchards and plant almost one million fruit trees.
